Table 4: Expanded Damage (Levels 31-75) Conversion Table 3: 3rd to 4th Edition Revising Salient Divine Abilities |
Dimensional Magic is something I have hinted at numerous times in the past. Initially it was going to be a part of the (3E) Immortals Handbook: Ascension. But when that book spiralled out of control I moved the magic element of the book to the Immortals Handbook: Grimoire. With that book now almost never to surface I have decided to use the material on the website for a series of articles. In addition adapting the ideas for 4th Edition as well, via the Ritual rules. I didn't think there was anything particularly revolutionary with regards my ideas for Dimensional Magic, but I did think it was a very quick and simple set of rules for achieving something potentially complicated. Dimensional Magic Dimensional Magic comprises six sets of spellcasting rules that overlap the basic laws of spellcasting (default 3E magic). As the name suggests each of these sets derive from one of the dimensions and operates by giving up something (based on the dimension) to achieve greater than normal results.
Each dimensional sub-set works by having spellcasters give up a certain amount of resources, the exact amount surrendered yields a free Automatic Metamagic slot for the purposes of the spell to be cast. Ritual Magic Sometimes also refered to as Circle Magic, is the ability for multiple spellcasters to work in concert to augment the power of a spell.
*In cases where you have multiple casters of different levels, all spellcasters involved must be high enough level to cast the base spell, otherwise treat them as fractions. ie. If we have the primary spellcaster is 20th-level and the base spell is Meteor Swarm (requiring 17th-level to cast). Then for us to have four additional spellcasters (and thus gain a +2 Metamagic bonus) the four spellcasters must average 17th-level each. That could be two at 18th and two others at 16th. Or it could even be twelve spellcasters of 6th level each, etc. As you can see above, the rules for Ritual spellcasting are ridiculously simple. For 4th Edition. Instead of granting bonus metamagic levels, I'm thinking it should grant an additional level for the purpose of casting the Ritual. However, I am also thinking that for 4th Edition there would be a bonus level cap of 10 levels. |
